Coffee and the Spanish( in English)

The 17th-century Spaniards were committed chocolate drinkers since it was their conquistadors who had "discovered" the cocoa bean in Central America. It was not until as late as the 19th century that coffee culture began to take hold. By the early 20th century, artists and writers were frequenting coffee houses in Barcelona, Granada and Madrid. Even so, for many years chocolate still remained the drink of the traditionalists.
